Medicating vs. Seeking God's Strength

Healing is a journey. It can take time to stop feeling the pain. How are you doing in the process?

Working longer hours, shopping, seeking sexual fulfillment, numbing your pain with alcohol or drugs . . . these are all artificial painkillers you may feel tempted to seek in order to help you cope with your stress. Depending on things such as these instead of depending on God will keep you from making forward progress.

When you are tempted to fill the void with these “artificial painkillers,” take the time to pray and ask God how he wants to help and show you where you have been self medicating. When we rely on our own strength and temporary highs to medicate the pain, we are missing the opportunity that God desires to use in order to help us grow and to teach us to trust in him. When we are weak, he is strong. He is our rock. Our strong tower. Ask him and he will give you his strength for the daily tasks.

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. (Psalm 28:7)
