You're Never Alone

Solitude can bring rejuvenation to a restless soul. But being newly separated or divorced isn’t the same as solitude. Even if you were living in a tense relationship, you are likely sensing moments of feeling alone, betrayed, or abandoned. It may be at work, at the mall, or at a Christmas party, but somewhere you will find that voice welling up inside of you saying, “You are alone. You are all by yourself.”

Well, you can talk back to that voice. You can hold on to a promise that God makes to everyone in his family: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). Feelings are powerful, no doubt. But feelings are not always correct. You can be sure that God will not break his promise, regardless of what your feelings may try to tell you.

Are you in God’s family? Then rest in the truth that you are never alone. Not sure you are in God’s family? You can be. God offers you permanent membership in his family simply through trusting in Jesus to be your Savior. Read John 1:12 in its context (including the surrounding verses) and take God up on his offer. Then tell your feelings the truth.

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. (John 1:12–13)
